We hosted a shopping spree at our Chestnut Hill location for a gorgeous and vibrant blogger we follow, Kristen of basicallyblonde.com. The result? A whirlwind of fabulous prints and fun cuts filling up one of the Greene Street's custom wood & metal fitting rooms. As we chatted with Kristen about her career (an RN by day and a fashion blogger by night) and her life, she showed us how to be both fearless and comfortable in your journey of fashion expression. Combining both practicality and eccentric, timeless items can be both functional but also on-trend and fun. Dressing yourself based on your own body type and playing up your favorite features is rewarding and makes shopping so much more enjoyable!
For example, Kristen loves to show off her legs but when it comes to wearing anything sleeveless, she told us she'd rather not. She accentuates what makes her confident and this is a big part of dressing ourselves that we often overlook when it comes to trying to be trendy or wear what's in. Kristen has shown us in an effortless manner that you can dress yourself so that you're confident, comfortable and very trendy!
Besides picking this driven blonde's brain and carefully observing her outfit choices, we also had the chance to inform and teach Kristen about Greene Street's founding principles. What so many of us don't know is that the fashion industry (and almost every brand is now included) is responsible for almost as much pollution as the oil industry. Fast fashion is responsible for the astonishingly low human welfare globally and mainly in third-world countries. The Fashion industry supports an industry where humans (like ourselves!) slave to produce our 12-dollar crop-top or our $54 peasant blouse (that we will soon retire) at $3 a day.
We didn't expect Kristen or anyone for that matter (including ourselves) to completely stop purchasing new clothing, but what we encourage is the thought process behind each transaction. When purchasing a new pair of jeans or a spring jacket, can you first possibly find it at Greene Street for less? It's these pauses and moments of consciousness that could make a big difference. Greene Street supports the recycling of clothing rather than the disposal of it. We also support purchasing and re-purposing clothing that didn't work for someone else. We like to think of this as a win/win situation: You can sell your unwanted garments and make money from them, and you can purchase affordable and beautiful, unique pieces to support a good cause. Kristen was shocked and also happy to have learned about alternatives to fast fashion. We had such a wonderful experience and are so thrilled we got to work with such a creative, independent and beautiful young woman!
Thanks again Kristen!
