Trends With Staying Power

Often times we avoid fast and edgy trends, not just because we feel awkward wearing them but because they come and go before we get to talk ourselves into trying them. Remember the peplum trend? Poof. Bye-bye. What about the shirts styled as jerseys? And skinny jeans with GIANT rips? Done. See ya in another decade! While there are most certainly trends and fads with a limited and finite shelf life, we have put together a list of trends that have staying power and don't appear to be going anywhere anytime soon. Sure, you may have seen these items lingering for a few seasons but before you write them off, check out our list for some spring shopping inspiration! Peruse our racks for some of these trendy finds; I have personally found a few myself in stores!

"Why I Shop Greene Street For My Kids"

We had the opportunity to not only work with and photograph Eva, a beautiful and inspiring mother of 3 (number 3 on the way, June 1!) and a resourceful entrepreneur. Eva lives with her husband and children in Chestnut Hill, PA and runs her own media business she started through instagram (you can follow her @ChestnutHillPhilly and @ManayunkPhilly) and Lavender Republic, a baking business where she distributes her homemade Liege Waffles and other goods to local businesses. We told you she was resourceful! 

Even with a full plate and two crazy-energetic and beautiful children (and one in her belly), you never get the feeling that you're being rushed through a conversation with Eva. Because she is so thoughtful and engaging, working with Eva is a true privilege. 

We asked Eva to come and shop with us at Greene Street Kids with her kids, and the result? A total cuteness overload combined with a real shopping spree for her daughter, Maclaren (5), and Jack (almost 1). What we didn't know was that Eva had been a shopper at Greene Street Kids long before our photoshoot day! 

After hearing that Eva chooses to shop consignment for her children's clothing and we know how conscientious her parenting is, we wanted to ask about it. We asked Eva a few questions about shopping for her children, and shopping consignment. Here's what we got:

Us: Shopping consignment for kids is a huge trend taking off right now. Being a mother yourself, why is it important to you to shop consignment for your children's clothing?   

Eva: It's not so much that shopping consignment is great, it's the experience from beginning to end with Greene Street that I like. The last thing I want is to dig and you don't have to do that at the kids shop in Chestnut Hill. It's set up like a normal store and I know for a fact that there will be good quality, adorable pieces to choose from. Kids grow out of clothing so fast, there is almost no point in buying new clothes.

Us: Are there certain items that you prefer to shop consignment for (example, shoes, pants, etc...)? Why those items? 

Eva: Anything dressy for sure. Since kids don't dress up very often, consignment is perfect for that. 

Us: What do you look for in a kid's consignment shop? (cleanliness, friendly staff..etc)

Eva: I look for a bright welcoming space that caters to the kids as well.

Us: Do you think the concept and trend of "consignment shopping" is going anywhere anytime soon?

Eva: It will become a much bigger deal if more consignment shops were designed the way Greene Street designs them. The environment encourages a wonderful shopping experience, therefore after you buy there is a better feeling about the purchase. In my experience, even if I buy a gorgeous piece, if it's from an unattractive store, it's worth less to me. It's a mental phenomenon that is not only specific to me I'm sure!

"In Between" Seasons Outfit

Is your closet still saying "winter" but your heart is saying "spring"? Are you dying to break out your espadrilles, sandals, ripped, light-wash denim and all of those light and airy tops? We hear that! But it can be a bit of a downer when you glance at your weather app on your phone and it reads "48 degrees and rainy" (yuck! seriously?). It can also put a halt on your outfit plans and force you into something a little more practical. But what if you don't know how to dress for these weird, bi-polar weather days? Don't panic and put down that heavy winter coat! 

Below we have a list of acceptable and appropriate (and still cute!) in-between season articles. Our adorable and very fashion-minded (yet practical) Chief Operations Officer here at Greene Street shows us her idea of her in-between-seasons look in our pictures below!

And there you have it! The changing of the seasons need not be as confusing and frustrating as it seems. You can now stop blankly staring at your sweater-stuffed closet for 10 minutes a morning and pick some pieces that transition you through the in-between phase. Don't be afraid to add a pop of COLOR! If you're feeling inspired by spring and BRIGHT colors, don't hesitate to add an accent scarf, bag or printed top to go under your raincoat.
