Greene Street began with one store in Bryn Mawr in 1997 and since then has opened 9 additional locations and employed about 120 people. As a company it has certainly traveled a bit from where it began! Founded on the principle of sustainability and keeping clothing in closets rather than in landfills, Greene Street still maintains its green-minded vision. Here at Greene Street we also believe in the power of community and maintaining our role as a faithful friend to each neighborhood we are located in while keeping our consignors and customers happy and feeling good about their experience with us. Being a part of something greater feels good and working at Greene Street is just as rewarding as shopping or consigning with us.
Our employees are the face of each one of our locations and the key building blocks to our entire vision that is Greene Street. Our employees (myself included) came up with a list of our TEN favorite perks and reasons why we love our jobs here. Don't get me wrong, there are far more than 10 reasons, but we wanted to come up with THEE best parts.
1. Our LOVE for fashion and getting to work with CLOTHING on a personal level.
2. Working with wonderful, diverse and positive people. We hire some pretty great people here at Greene Street, so you know before you begin that you will have a team that you can look forward to seeing and working with at each shift.
3. GROWTH opportunity. Almost all of our employees who now work at our Head Quarters began working in our stores as employees and worked their way up. Because our company is still small and because we place such high value on our employees who excel, "climbing our ladder" or landing a position higher than where you began is very common and encouraged!
4. Working within wonderful communities. Each of our stores are within a different community (Princeton, South Street Philadelphia, Lambertville, etc...) and each community has its own feel. The clothing that we receive at each location is a reflection of its surrounding community and consignors. This makes working for Greene Street exciting and ever-changing.
5. Friendly atmosphere at our stores and Head Quarters. The aesthetics where you spend your work day are kind of a big deal, and you know this if you've ever worked in a not-so-pleasant work environment.
6. Let's get to the part we all want to hear: we offer competitive pay rates here at Greene Street and give bonuses! We also offer health care coverage for our full-time employees.
7. Supporting a small business with a BIG cause. Currently, the fashion industry is #2 in the "Dirtiest Industries" and what that means is it is the SECOND most harmful industry to the environment and to human welfare next to the oil industry. "Fast fashion" or disposable fashion (think everything from Forever 21 to Diane Von Furstenberg) has taken over the world and created irrevocable amounts of damage and Greene Street provides an alternative to purchasing all of your clothing brand-new. Working toward raising awareness and thus helping to slow fashion down a bit feels really good.
8. Merchandise Discounts! Need we say more? We get dibs on some amazing finds, and for even less!
9. Exciting and fast-paced work environment. We always have a ton going on at our stores between consignments and shoppers, and working with a supportive team makes every day go by quick!
10. Skill-building work environment. Our managers have a hands-on approach at working with their employees to help each and every individual excel and build personal relationships with each customer. Every position here at Greene Street offers its own set of challenges and this makes working here exciting and good preparation for future growth within our company.
