Trends of Spring 2016

The weather may not be caught up just yet but our minds are already on their way into spring. We still have another month of winter, but that in no way means we can't gush over the upcoming trends (seen at NYFW and every single fashion bloggers main feed) that Spring of 2016 is bringing us. Knowing ahead of time what to look for and what you already have in your closet is so useful for the fashion-conscious shopper inside all of us. Whether you're a strictly-functional, no-frills kinda gal or a on-trend diva this spring's trend guide has something for everyone. Disclaimer: you may not need rush to purchase every item listed. Look in your closet to see what you may be able to dust off and bring back! 

Let's start with colors. 

ROSE QUARTZ & SERENITY 

Pantone released these two colors as Spring's colors. If you either of these two in your wardrobe then combine them into an outfit! The colors alone are very peaceful and spring oriented. They make the cutest accent colors for a pop (think clutch, heels, jewelry). 

METALLICS

I know, it sounds a little weird to nonchalantly work metallics into your wardrobe for the season, but if you feel a little cautious then start small. A slip-on or metallic flat mule would pair lovely with almost anything and adds the perfect amount of accent. If you're a little more daring then a metallic pleated skirt is a big statement garment right now. It's girly and playful but stands out and effortlessly pairs with a basic v-neck tee or a simple chambray.  

FLAT MULES

 The heeled mule was big in 2015 but now we're bringing in her functional and simple sister the flat mule. It's so easy to pair with a skirt or skinny and cropped denim. This shoe gives off that effortless "model-off-duty" look that we love. To wear this trend shop them in metallic, black, suede or tasseled.

Romantic Maxi Dress

This may quite possibly be my favorite trend to rock. It's such a beautiful silhouette and works for every figure. We aren't talking about a striped, cotton maxi dress but the kind that takes you back to the 70's. Wear this breezy look with sandals or booties and crossbody.

The Slip Dress

Here's another trend making a comeback from the 90's. This slinky silhouette is all you need to feel sexy this spring. A timeless black slip dress is all you need, or find one in metallic. It has been popping up here and there for some time it's only getting more popular as the year goes on.

Athleisure Style at Greene Street

Wearing yoga pants to the grocery store and out to run errands is nothing new. When we talk about the term 'athleisure', we are referring to the ever-growing trend of sporting a functional yet chic athletic look, and not just at the gym. Athleisure shows no sign of slowing down and is instead making its way down the runways of New York Fashion Week. With every celebrity showing up in tabloids (to name a few think Gigi Hadid and Kendall Jenner) grabbing their morning Starbucks in Nike's, Lululemon leggings and a leather bomber jacket, its no surprise that we feel inspired by this trend. Combining leggings with slip-on loafers, an easy tank and a chambray is an outfit that can take you from your favorite spin class to brunch with your girlfriends all the way to your errands on a Saturday afternoon without slowing you down or missing a beat! We already know the convenience and the popularity of this fashion trend, but what about the affordability and where we are purchasing our moisture-wicking attire?

To name a few brands, Lululemon, Nike and Athleta are among some of the most sought-after and popular names to shop for this trend. A pair of yoga pants (or leggings) at Lululemon costs $98. A pair of standard full-length tights at Nike costs upwards of $130 and Athleta's tights are at $79. We are talking about just the pants! As much as we love a pair of adorable printed leggings, these costs may affect your wallet in an not-so-adorable way. We are here to bring it to your awareness that Greene Street happily receives and inspects high-end athletic wear at every location, all of the time. We know that wearing used athletic wear seems a little, well...gross. But that is not the case at Greene Street. We accept only consignments that are extra-carefully inspected inside and out. If any article seems to have not been washed and in tip-top shape we will politely reject them.
